I wish I had known...
I have been lucky because I came here during the summer to have a look before moving to study. It is important to know if you live on campus or off campus because then in the second case the option of having a car is fundamental!

It is a wonderful place for an Erasmus experience because there is plenty of opportunities to have fun and develop new activities and interests. If you come for academic reasons then of course it depends on the quality of the specific department you are applying for!

The study rhythm is very intensive and demanding, expecially postgraduate. Social life is very good as well, so overall it is a place I would recommend.

Excellent in my field of study, I don't know about other fields. Cosy, "contained" campus

On your first trip to your university, plan to ariive in the country in the morning, on a working day, so that you have a lot of time to get to the university, find your accomodation and settle. Take as little as possible with you, and arrange to buy all the staff that you need after you settle, if you can afford it, or have it sent to you. The most frustrating experience is to try to get to a strange place, in the middle of the night (it gets dark early there in the automn and winter), carrying heavy bags and trying to find a university officer to show you to your room.

Try and speak to a current student before you come to get an idea of what the university is like. I was worried about coming, and needn't have.

Campus is quite small, which can become a bit of a bubble and may not suit everyone. But the advantage of being at a campus university is that there is a real sense of community, and you make friends very quickly and easily, which was important to me. Quality of teaching and courses varies between departments, but there are plenty of opportunities to get involved and meet other students, and resources are plentiful.

University is what you make of it. There are plenty of opportunities available, and the more of these you take up, the more things you do, and the more you get involve with, the more you will get out of your time here. Be open to getting to know lots of people, throw yourself into your studies, and you will have a great time :)

This is a very nice University. Highly recommended. However, do not bother about the architecture. The buildings are quite bad but not the accommodation.

The university has a very helpful community and very diverse. You will have oppotunities to try new sports and start new projects. I found it very easy to commute, Colchester is located an hour away from London by train and much closer to other town. I personally really enjoy the nice green environment and the country side walks.

The course gave me insight on Graphic Design as a whole, however student development was merely personal. I, on my own managed to acquire the degree with my own skills and instincts. Nonetheless the course was engaging.
