Make sure you'll get a young person's railcard (and an oyster card for inner London), so you are able to go into London for around £10 (instead of £30).

There are a lot of International students about, so preferred spoken language was English. I was asked to attend a test at the beginning of the year, just for the assesment and afterwards given a choice of courses I could attens such as Academic Writing Skills, Vocabulary, Listening skills etc. If I wouldn't have been quite secure in my language ability, I'm sure I would've gone to some of those and would've found them helpful.

I was there for half a year and lived in one of the Towers on campus. It looks quite daunting from the outside and the fact that you are suppose to live in a flat with 13 people (14 incl. you) doesn't help either. But once I got there, I had 13 friends straight away and the best time. The kitchen is a big communal area. If you feel a bit bored, there's always someone in there who you can talk to. The kitchen is cleaned every day and so is the bathroom.

Don't miss the castle park. It is beautiful in the summer with lots of activities such as food fairs etc or you can just relax listening to a local orchestra.
