I lived in a "flatting community" called Toroa International House. My flatmates and the people living in other flats were from a wide range of countries. Getting to know things about their cultures and personalities is what I found more interesting about living there.

Final comments
Do as much traveling as possible. Keep weekends free, so you can travel, it's really worth it. And be prepared to spend at least 1 or 2 month after your studies in NZ, so that you can really see something of the country. Dunedin is a great city to study at, people there are a bit crazy, but very friendly and relaxed. It really is a student city (in holidys the city is empty).

Personal comments
Try to find other international students who are leaving when you are coming, they will always have cheap furniture, bedding, and other stuff that you need.

Personal comments
Although I was quite fluent in English before going to New Zealand my level has improved. At the beginning, though, it was sometimes hard to understand the accent that the "kiwis" use as it is very different from the american-english accent that I had mostly heard before.

Even though the flats weren't in a good state, living in the Uniflats offers the possibility of meeting a lot of international and native students, especially in the big complexes (Lofts, Flofts, 480 Leith etc.)

It is hard to know from your home University which courses are avaible for the year. In my opinion, this should be improved.
