I was proficient in English to begin with, so had no real difficulties. The only thing that was sometimes difficult was understanding the Scottish accents, which with some people are quite thick.

The nice places for going out were on campus as well as in the city. It is a must to travel around Scotland as it is a beautiful country! The traditional scottisch dance events are brilliant.

The Scottish accent is really hard to understand at first. After a while you get used to it. My english improved a lot.
