A wonderful environment to develop my skills

Overall
I fell in love with the University of Roehampton because of its green campus. Being in London but having parks, golf courses, and forests around my home was perfect. My course was Classical Civilisations (ancient cultures, law, art, literature, and warfare) and it was incredible to study a breadth of subjects. I also spent most of my free time leading student societies. I was the Chair of the Students' Union Council, President of the Music Society, Vice President of  both the Esports and Historical & Classical Societies, and I held the position of Mens' Rowing Captain and Society President for the whole 3 years. I also got the chance to work in film production which I love. It was a wonderful experience that allowed me to flourish.

I wish I had known...
I wish that I had know more British English to avoid embarrassing mistakes! I also wish I'd known not to wear white socks. On a more serious note, I wish I had thought of taking a second ATM or credit card, as my card was "eaten" by a machine! My parents had to wire me money.

After returning to the US and finishing my studies, I went to London again on a work exchange program. The program was sponsored by BUNAC. I did not travel as much as the first time, but I did gain a lot more independence and life skills by going out and finding a job and flat on my own in a strange city. I also got to know the culture a lot better. I suggest having some experience travelling in the country you want to work in before going on a work exchange. I think it would have been harder if I'd never been to London before. I do not suggest a work exchange program if you have never lived away from your parents! I saw people on my program who couldn't handle it and had to go home because they were not independent enough.

The courses were great, they combined theory with practical exercises. However, I would have appreciated to have the opportunity to conduct an internship in a real company, so that I could have made us of the knowledge we gained.
