Academic
Course recommendations
Better lecturers. Most know their subject, but cannot relay it very well to students. These profs (most anyway) need to have some education courses along with their degrees.

I wish I had known...
Yes, cost of living and they need more courses. If I knew I could only take a few, I would have not applied for the second semester.

Personal recommendation
Don't go here. Hamilton is boring. New Zealand is fantastic. Try to go to school in Otago, Wellington or somewhere where there is more to do.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Because the housing situation was ridiculous. I am an American and lived with two Americans and a Canadian. I didn't get the quintissential "Kiwi" experince per se.

Complete ripoff!! Not only do we pay for housing, we have to pay for utilites and phone and food. I chose this housing because it was cheaper than the other on-campus housing. Food I knew I would have to buy. But I was not aware that I was going to have to pay for utilites, water and phone as well. These fees were very exorbitant. Furthermore, for a housing that is supposed to be geared for international students as well as students that like perfer lifestyles of their own, it sure had a lot of frivolous and superflous rules to abide by. Let the students do more of what they wish and have some of the accomodation fees pay off the utilities. Next time, try to situate more Kiwis with more internationals.
