You'll be working together with other international students and this is a challenge. People from different cultural backgrounds have different approaches to working on a project, but it is a great way of working and gaining experience in working together with students. Your English is going to improve as well. You will not have a lot of hours in classrooms, but the projects take time. You will have plenty of time to travel or go out.

The language of introduction is English. Since I have successfully finished a placement in the UK, I did not have any difficulty with that. There is a course Swedish for Beginners, which I followed. That is a very nice way of mastering the basic knowledge of the Swedish language.

As mentioned earlier, Växjö Universitet informs you very well on beforehand of what to expect. There is hardly anything to worry about. the University is always willing to help you. They even put very much effort in knowing you personally.

If you want to experience a very very very international (350 international students per semester) and kind environment, not afraid of the weather (it's kind of cold sometimes. I suggest to go from jan-jun. Aug-Dec could be a bit depressing because of the darkness in the weather), and fond of meeting new people and willing to have an active and wonderful time, Växjö University is the place for you!!

The only thing that you might not like, is the time away from your family and that you get a bit homesick. That varies from person to person and will always happen to some extend in an international experience. Please do not let that be a reason for not going. Most of the time, you do not even have the time to think about that. Your agenda will be very full with loads of wonderful international activities. The time I was there, for example, every nationality threw a party in which you'll have lots of fun and learn so much about their culture simultaneously.

The supermarkets in Sweden are more expensive than in Holland. Therefore you will definitly need about 2000 swedish crowns (about 230 euro's) per month to eat. In Holland I still lived with my parents so I did not have any expenses in that field. But in Sweden you will pay about 1000-1400 euro's (depends on the kind of residence you're staying in) for the entire stay. So that is about 250-350 euro's per month. You have to pay this money in two terms: In March and in May. There is a different arrangement if you are from the US.

There were no financial surprises for me, because on beforehand, Växjö Universtet will send you a booklet with valuable information. They also give an indication of how much money the experience will cost you alltogether.

Pourquoi?

I lived together with two French students and one Spanish student. Living together with people of two different kinds of cultural backgrounds is such a great experience. Next to that, you'll make friends for life.

Växjö Universitet is very well organised. It has its own housing officer. She is a wonderful person that does a real good job at finding housing for international students. International students will live off campus, but that is not a problem, because you live together with other international students. And your neighbours and your neighbours neighbours will be international students too. If you are willing to study at Växjö Universitet, housing is no problem whatsoever.

On campus there are two clubs to go to. And they are great! Off campus there is one more studentpub. A lot of international students go there, because they live so close to it. Next to that, you have your regular clubs and bars in Växjö. It's not a very big town (75.000 inhab.), but there are a handful of nice clubs/bars to go to. The university is very active in organising parties and events (among which a visit to Stockholm) for international students, so you will not be bored.
