I feel that my accomodation gave me the greatest exposure to Swedish life. You have to share almost everything with your fellow students. My room was comfortable and the other students living in the hall became some of my best friends.

The university has two sections of housing. One section is in the downtown area (where I lived), and the other is on-campus. I truly enjoyed living in the city. It was easy enough to get to campus, and it gave me a feeling that I was really a part of daily life in a Swedish community. It was close to all the shopping and restaurants as well. I can also say that the housing everywhere in Vaxjo is of the highest quality!

Spent loads of time at all the student pubs. Pudas, Slotts Stalarna, and Sivans. My favorite places were Sivans and Pudas (Pudas is downtown where I lived). Also, VIS is a great club to belong to. That will definately keep you busy.

Please, please, please consider it! I had the BEST time of my life there. Vaxjo University gave me so many of the skills and motivations that I needed to give me a great start in life.

I know that I've probably repeated this about a million times, but I have to say it again. Vaxjo University gave me a completely new outlook on life. I met some of the greatest friends, had a chance to travel extensively, learn another language and culture, and become an independent person. My greatest advice is to just go, and don't look back. Don't think about home. Think about where you are when you're there. The Swedes will take care of the rest. They'll show you a great time, teach you about their country, and be your friends for life.

Since having a HUGE five-hour exam at the end of each course is the Swedish norm, I'm not going suggest an 'improvement'. It is a bit shocking to an American student, however.

Swedish is a BEAUTIFUL language. Since I keep in contact with many of my Swedish friends to this day, I still get to hear it occasionally. I picked up quite a bit of Swedish, although most of the Swedes will make every attempt to speak English with you!!

Food is VERY expensive in Sweden. But using the telephone and transportation are much more affordable and accessable. My apartment is Sweden was state-owned, so it was partially subsidized and cost only around $225.00/month. Very fair for the great quality.

Drink only at the student pubs. Otherwise, your money will disappear quickly. Also, try to eat at home, restaurants are also expensive and the service isn't very good in comparison to the price you pay.
