Key Responsibilities
* Support the clearance of outstanding defects on the overhead line network.
* Assist, when required, with the construction, maintenance, and repair of the electrical distribution network in line with all relevant policies, standards, and safety requirements - including participation in out of hours work and response during storm conditions.
* Deliver all assigned work efficiently, safely, and within agreed timescales and productivity targets.
* As an Asset Defect Operative / Lines Support Operative, you will play a vital role in reducing defects across our overhead line assets. This includes supporting Linespersons by assisting with a range of operational tasks, including pole top rescue activities, in accordance with your training and authorisation.
* The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and a proactive approach to contributing to the delivery and success of our work programmes.
* You will also be required to obtain the appropriate level of authorisation to enable the safe and effective delivery of your duties and to provide on site support to the craftsperson, in line with your skills, training, and authorised responsibilities.
* Additionally, you will ensure all site activities are carried out safely, including acting as the nominated Person in Charge of Safety where appropriate, for the duration of works you attend.

What you'll be doing

You'll take part in an intensive 6-month training programme, including a City & Guilds Electrical Engineering course, giving you a strong foundation to grow your career in the power industry.
Achieving a reduction in defects across distribution overhead lines
Assistance in:
Lines Activities -
* Work closely with experienced Linesperson to assist in Lines work and associated activities. Follow instructions and contribute to the efficient and safe execution of the task
Site Preparation -
* Support the Lines team in the preparation of work sites, including excavation, trenching, and other groundwork activities.
* Collaborate with the team to ensure that work areas are safe and compliant with health and safety regulations.
Material Handling -
* Assist in the handling, transportation, and organisation of materials and tools required for jointing tasks
* Ensure the proper storage and care of equipment to maintain safety standards
Safety Compliance -
* Adhere to health and safety guidelines and protocols at all times
* Participate in safety briefings and contribute to the identification and mitigation of potential hazards.
Documentation and Record Keeping -
* Maintain accurate records of jointing activities, including material usage and work performed.
* Report any issues or concerns to the jointing team and supervisors promptly.
Continuous Learning -
Actively engage in training opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in Lines activities. · Seek guidance from experienced Lines people to develop expertise.

What you'll bring

* Previous experience in a support role within the energy, construction, or utility industry is advantageous.
* Basic understanding of electrical systems and Lines processes is desirable
* Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual tasks in a variety of weather conditions.
* Willingness to learn and contribute to a collaborative team environment ·
* Ability to communicate with members of the public.
* Full driving licence, with HGV Class 1 desirable but not essential.

* Clean Driving Licence

* Ability to work at height
* Ability to work in various weather conditions
* Manual handling
