Summary:
The Software Portfolio Specialist governs, optimizes, and ensures compliance across SAP's third-party software portfolio - while partnering with IT, GPO, Global Controlling, and vendors - to reduce risk and optimize cost across the software lifecycle. In this role, you will be accountable for a software portfolio where you will:
Software Asset Lifecycle Management
* Own the end-to-end software asset lifecycle, from request through retirement
* Maintain accurate software inventory and entitlement records
* Deliver accurate software expense forecasts and ensure timely, complete charge-out
* Portfolio and Cost Optimization
* Analyze usage and consumption to identify cost-saving opportunities
* Drive license optimization, shelfware reduction, and portfolio rationalization
* Support renewals and true-ups with data-driven recommendations
* Vendor & Contract Management
* Serve as the primary contact (with GPO buyer) for strategic software vendors
* Interpret licensing models, agreements, and metrics
* Support negotiations with accurate usage, compliance, and forecast data
* Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
* Produce reports and dashboards on software usage, spend, and risk
* Deliver insights and recommendations to stakeholders on software governance, opportunities, and risks
Role Requirements:
Essential Skills:
* Software portfolio & lifecycle management: Ability to manage software across its lifecycle understand of how portfolio decisions affect cost, risk, architecture, security, and end users
* Licensing & commercial acumen: Practical knowledge of licensing models and metrics, and ability to interpret contracts, order forms, product terms, metrics definitions, audit clauses
* Data & analytics: Strong data skills to reconcile multiple data sources and ability to build insights from data
* Stakeholder and vendor management: Strong influencing and communication skills and ability to manage vendors professionally
Experience:
* Hands-on SAM/ ITAM exposure: Experience with software compliance, contract/ entitlement management, renewal planning, cost forecasting + expense tracking, usage analytics, and cost optimization initiatives
* Tooling familiarity: Experience working with SAM tools (Flexera) and procurement/ finance systems (for spend + charge-out)
* Cross-functional working: Experience working across multiple groups and navigating competing priorities

* Evidence over opinion: comfortable challenging assumptions - incl. vendor positions - diplomatically but firmly
* Operational discipline: strong on renewal calendars, documentation, and preventing last-minute fire drills
* Comfort with ambiguity: are calm in complexity of imperfect data, shifting contract terms, and constant business pressure
