Job Description:
Join us in creating the technology that helps the world act together
We are a B2B technology innovation leader pioneering the future where networks meet cloud. At Nokia you will have a positive impact on people's lives and help build the capabilities needed for a more productive, sustainable, and accessible world.
Be part of a culture built on an inclusive way of working where we are open to your ideas, you are empowered to take risks and are encouraged to be fearless in bringing your authentic self to work.
The team you'll be part of
Nokia Bell Labs is the world-renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems. This research has produced nine Nobel Prizes, five Turing Awards and numerous other awards.
The candidate will be part of the Network System & Security Research (NSSR) group, whose aim is to securely orchestrate computation, data and network elements across heterogeneous environments. To achieve this goal, we work on a variety of topics ranging from extended computing and autonomous systems to E2E network security and data & knowledge privacy.
What you will learn and contribute to
We are seeking research intern to work with our researchers on topics of optimizing low latency data exchange between microservices implemented as containers. Microservice architecture is an emerging paradigm used in implementation of large cloud-based systems. However, in cases where the system is using low latency messaging between microservices, the current messaging solutions between containers become a bottleneck.
In your work, you will test and evaluate how currently available techniques can seamlessly be replaced with faster and more optimized solution in various use cases and set-ups, where differentiating requirements need to be supported in secure manner in multitenant environments. You will also contribute to develop test cases and evaluation set-ups for together with the team.
You will work in the Network Systems and Security Research Lab at Nokia Bell Labs in Budapest in a multi-cultural team of researchers across Europe solving the network challenges of tomorrow in close collaboration with business groups and other research teams around the world. You will be expected to come up with your own ideas and bring them to fruition. Internship requires a 6-month duration
Candidate Requirements:
Your skills and experience

* Programming skills (e.g., C and C++). Knowledge of Rust and python is a plus.
* Experience of working with containerized micro-services in distributed embedded systems is preferred. Kubernetes and Docker are known to you.
* Experience on programming in Linux environment. Understanding of system level communication interfaces and libraries is a plus. Also, some knowledge and experience on working with either TCP and other IP protocols, or DPDK, memif and other low-level data handling packages helps.
* Together with the team, you should be able to test and evaluate a communication software library with APIs in various set-ups using continuous low-latency messaging streams.
