Abbott Ireland Diagnostic Division - Longford

Our Longford facility plays a key role in meeting global demand for diagnostic testing in areas such as infectious disease, cancer, thyroid, and cardiovascular conditions. Longford offers a vibrant community with rich history, natural amenities, and strong cultural and sporting life.
We currently have an opportunity for a Diagnostic Technologist in our Operations Department.

Primary Function

* Support the timely execution of the Production Schedule to meet quality, safety, service, and financial goals.
* Perform assigned activities to achieve production targets in quality and output.

Key Responsibilities

* Perform duties assigned by the Team Leader.
* Carry out manufacturing operations, including documentation, computer systems (LDRS, DMS, LIMS, ETMS, ERP), and environmental monitoring.
* Follow all GMP, GLP, and safety requirements.
* Complete all documentation accurately and on time.
* Maintain stock levels of laboratory consumables.
* Support training of new employees and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Assist with validation activities and procedure updates.
* Ensure compliance with EHS standards and Abbott policies.

Function-Specific Responsibilities

Concentrates

* Manufacture Microparticle and Conjugate components.
* Operate systems such as AMP's, MAGSEP, FPLC, and spectrophotometers.
* Use equipment including mixers, pumps, filters, and rotators.
* Follow aseptic techniques and GMP requirements for Class 8 and Class 5 areas.

Solutions

* Manufacture bulk calibrators, controls, reagents, buffers, and diluents.
* Perform large- and small-scale batch manufacturing.
* Use tanks, mixers, pumps, filters, and related equipment.
* Follow formula instructions and aseptic/GMP requirements.

Testing

* Perform in-process and release testing per Standard Control Procedures.
* Operate and maintain ADD analysers (Architect, Alinity).
* Execute testing through LIMS and instrument interfaces.
* Conduct non-platform testing (e.g., HPLC, LCMS, % solids).
* Review and verify test results; support investigations and change requests.
* Perform stability, complaints, and EQAS testing as required.

Education & Experience

* Minimum Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) plus a Certificate in a relevant discipline.
* Experience in a scientific manufacturing environment is desirable but not essential.

Accountability

* Must be fully trained before performing manufacturing tasks.
* Responsible for following procedures to prevent manufacturing issues or customer impact.
* Works independently once trained, with regular performance reviews.
