Purpose of the role
To assess the integrity and effectiveness of the banks internal control framework to support the mitigation of risk and protection of the banks operational, financial, and reputational risk.
Accountabilities
* Knowledge of business areas, products, processes and platforms to be able to assess risk
* Collaboration with various stakeholders across the bank and business units to improve overall control effectiveness through detailed documentation of control assessments, procedures, and findings.
* Identification and investigation of potential weaknesses and issues within internal controls to promote continuous improvement and risk mitigation aligned to the bank's control framework, prioritised by its severity to disrupt bank operations.
* Development of reports to communicate key findings from risk assessment including control weaknesses and recommendations to control owners, senior management, and other stakeholders.
* Execution of reviews to determine the effectiveness of the bank's internal controls framework aligned to established and evolving policies, regulation, and best practice.
* Implementation of adherence to the Barclays Controls Framework and set appropriate methodology of assessing controls against the Controls Framework.

Join a growing Private Bank & Wealth Management (PBWM) business in a key leadership role as Investigations & Intelligence Lead in the PBWM Financial Crime Risk team.
As part of the PBWM Financial Crime Risk function, the Investigations & Intelligence VP is responsible for driving effective financial crime intelligence sharing and ensuring intelligence is actioned to protect the business. The role leads the implementation of the Group intelligence sharing framework within PBWM, establishes clear roles and responsibilities to support intelligence sharing processes, and sets risk-led priorities aligned to the threat assessment and PBWM risk appetite. External source coordination is led by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU); this role primarily receives intelligence from the FIU for PBWM triage, action and investigation allocation, and gathers intelligence from across the PBWM business to provide structured feedback and insights to the FIU. Working in close partnership with Financial Crime Compliance, Legal, Operations and wider risk management functions, the role provides leadership across governance forums, drives continuous improvement through MI and trend analysis, and builds capability through targeted training and guidance.
What you will be doing:
* Implement the Group Intelligence Sharing Framework within PBWM, including clear roles/responsibilities and effective operating routines.
* Set financial crime intelligence risk priorities aligned to threat assessments and PBWM risk appetite; translate priorities into an actionable intelligence plan.
* Own the intake, initial review and triage of intelligence received from the FIU (and other internal stakeholders), ensuring appropriate allocation, escalation and timely action within PBWM; consolidate PBWM-generated intelligence and feedback to support FIU-led external information sharing.
* Maintain PBWM intelligence artefacts and lists (e.g., high-risk client / watchlists as applicable), ensuring appropriate governance, quality, timely updates and MI.
* Provide oversight of investigations into potential money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial crime risks; apply deep EDD expertise for high-risk customer types.
* Maintain processes for regular and trigger-based analysis, thematic insights, and MI to identify emerging risks and drive continuous improvement.
* Provide risk-led feedback to the Transaction Monitoring (TM) team on intelligence-driven trends and emerging typologies; recommend scenario/rule/threshold changes where needed and contribute to TM optimisation activities.
* Represent PBWM in the Group High Risk Clients forums (led by the FIU), providing PBWM insights, updates and challenge, and ensuring outcomes are communicated and actioned within PBWM.
* Partner with the FIU, Financial Crime Compliance, Legal, Operations and risk functions; lead updates through PBWM governance forums and contribute materials for global forums, supporting FIU-led external engagement through clear escalation packs, feedback loops and training/guidance based on recurring themes.
Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:
* Significant experience in financial crime intelligence, investigations, risk management and/or complex casework within a financial institution or relevant public/private sector environment.
* Strong knowledge of financial crime risk typologies and control frameworks (e.g., AML/CTF, sanctions, PEP risk, adverse media), with demonstrated ability to set risk-led priorities and deliver outcomes.
* Deep expertise in Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) and high-risk customer management, including PEPs and other elevated risk segments, with the credibility to challenge senior stakeholders.
* Proven leadership and stakeholder management skills, including influencing across 1st/2nd line functions and working effectively with Legal, Compliance, Operations and regional teams.
* Experience designing, embedding or operating intelligence sharing / information management processes, including intake/triage, investigation allocation, escalation and governance reporting.
* Excellent analytical, judgement and decision-making capability, including the ability to assess incomplete information, manage confidentiality and act at pace.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing executive-level materials (MI, governance packs, risk papers) and presenting to senior forums.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience within Private Bank & Wealth Management, including understanding of client segments, products and jurisdictional operating models.
* Exposure to intelligence sources and engagement models (e.g., industry information sharing groups, vendor intelligence products, law enforcement liaison channels) and associated handling requirements.
* Experience with developing MI and thematic insight from complex data sets (e.g., alerts, cases, KYC/EDD outcomes, screening results) to inform priorities and control enhancements.
* Change delivery experience, including process design, operating model implementation and control enhancement across multiple jurisdictions.
* Professional qualifications or certifications relevant to financial crime (e.g., ICA, ACAMS) or equivalent demonstrable expertise.
