The role provides high quality, evidence-based insights on control design and operating effectiveness, supports remediation of control weaknesses, and contributes to consistent, accurate assurance and control reporting for senior leadership. * Assess control design and operating effectiveness, identifying gaps and agreeing remediation actions with control owners.
* Operate and continuously improve SPEN's assurance & control model, monitoring assurance activity and control performance.
* Coordinate assurance coverage across cross-functional areas including Asset Management, Quality, Environment, H&S, Cyber and GDPR.
* Maintain structured assurance plans, control registers, risk control matrices and supporting documentation aligned to SPEN standards.
* Track remediation actions through to closure and validate outcomes.
* Promote strong internal control practices through practical guidance, templates and awareness activity.
* Produce clear, concise assurance reports, dashboards and metrics for senior stakeholders and governance forums.
* Ensure assurance insights are accurately reflected in ERM risk reporting.
* Work closely with first line SMEs, Internal Audit, Compliance and specialist Group functions to maximise value and avoid duplication.
* Undertake site visits, walkthroughs and process reviews across SPEN locations.
* Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, streamline processes and enhance assurance coverage.

What you'll bring

* Proven experience delivering assurance, audit or control testing in a large, regulated organisation.
* Strong working knowledge of internal control frameworks and methodologies.
* Ability to analyse complex processes and translate findings into clear, practical recommendations.
* Confident communicator, able to influence stakeholders and challenge constructively.
* Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills, managing multiple reviews to tight deadlines.
* Experience of regulated environments and understanding of regulatory-driven control expectations.
* High standards of integrity, independence and evidence quality.
* Working knowledge of IT general controls and application controls.
* Comfortable using Microsoft 365 and insight/dashboarding tools.

As a minimum, you will demonstrate:
* Degree qualified (or equivalent experience).
* Demonstrable experience planning and delivering assurance or audit reviews.
* Experience supporting remediation and managing actions through to closure.
* Strong stakeholder engagement and project delivery experience.
