The Opportunity
The Software / Platform Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and evolving scalable digital platforms and software solutions that power MetLife's customer and associate experiences. This role contributes directly to MetLife's purpose by enabling secure, reliable, and modern digital capabilities that support growth, efficiency, and operational resilience across the Digital organization.
This role sits within MetLife's Digital technology function in the United States, partnering closely with product, architecture, security, and business teams.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on highly visible digital platforms at enterprise scale-solving complex problems, modernizing core systems, and delivering technology solutions that directly impact how millions of customers engage with MetLife.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop scalable software and platform solutions that support MetLife's digital products and shared services.
* Collaborate with product owners, architects, and security partners to translate business and technical requirements into high-quality implementations.
* Ensure reliability, performance, and security of applications through adherence to engineering standards, DevSecOps practices, and enterprise controls.
* Contribute to platform modernization efforts by improving automation, reducing technical debt, and adopting modern development patterns.
* Support and enhance production systems, including troubleshooting issues and participating in continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
* 2+ years of software or platform engineering experience, which may include relevant internships, co-op experience, or substantial academic or hands-on project work for early-career candidates.
* Experience or demonstrated proficiency in modern programming languages, development tools, and platforms (e.g., Java, JavaScript, APIs, cloud or SaaS platforms, CI/CD or DevSecOps tools).
Early-career candidates with strong technical fundamentals-demonstrated through a relevant degree, internships, certifications, or hands-on development experience (such as academic or personal projects)-will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with Salesforce or CRM platforms, including exposure to Apex, Lightning Web Components, APIs, or Salesforce configuration and integrations.
* Familiarity with modern delivery practices, such as Agile/Scrum, CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps, and automated testing within an enterprise environment.
* Salesforce or cloud-related certifications, hands-on project work, internships, or practical development experience supporting enterprise applications.
Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
The expected salary range for this position is $70,000 - $95,000. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
