Denmark (Scandinavia) generally more expensive, especially books. BRING expensive items with you, especially BOOKS. Be prepared to spend more or do without!

Academic
Course recommendations
Most foreign students attend English-language courses (partly because Danish is sooooooooo difficult to learn).

Final comments
Arhus is very much a student city with vibrant night-life, sea, beach & woods. Danes & foreign students generally got on. Foreign students tended to be 'cluiqy' so I experienced Spanish/Italian/US/Japanese etc culture as much as Danish. Bring money & BOOKS & try to learn some Danish before you arrive.

Personal comments
I (and many other foreign students) found Danish extremely difficuly - partly because of the lack of pre-travel classes (I used tapes) but mainly a) the sounds of the language b) the very real difference between written and spoken Danish. The month-long intensive course was excellent (& incredibly demanding) but insufficient. Loved Denmark, liked the Danes, hated the *@! language!

Housing
Type of housing: Hall of Residence
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Because of a booking error, I spent one month in an on-campus Hall of Residence exclusively for foreign students,6 months in an on-outskirts-of-town Hall occupied mainly by Danish students in a small complex of such Halls, then 4 months back in the original Hall. Occupants were fine both times, but it's Location,Location,Location!

I'm a (very!) mature student - the 'pick your birthdate' section leaves me 4 years too young! - so I'm not sure I can help. Everyone raved about the excellent city night-life & the Hall-based parties.
