A part of the experience is to NOT know what to expect, as you learn as you go. It makes you stronger as a person, and the fact that you have to stand on your own feet makes you more confident as well.

It depends on what subjects you study at Deakin University. I found the media studies there to be perfect for me, but I have heard of incidents where people who study business have not been all satisfied

For me, the main reason of coming to Australia was to learn about the Australian culture and to spend time with the locals. I know that there are many internatinal students who never mingle with Australians while studying there, and to me, personally, it seems like a complete waste. I had some of the best times of my life skiing for three seasons in the Australian alps, and today I have my best friends there. There are so many small things that tourists don't catch up on when it somes to the Australian culture. They might have seen the Opera House in Sydney, but they would never know the slang and...well, everything about AUstralia that I love. I have travelled a lot so far in my life, but my experience for the three years in Australia was so much more than my studies; it was the people and the whole ...

Perhaps having known how it easy it could have been to buy a second hand car I would have changed my Italian license to an international one and brought with me a bit more money to invest in a car to travel around in as the distances in Australia are very big.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: A room exchange
Why?
The Melbourne Campus of Deakin University is about 45 min. from the city centre (by tram). I would have preferred a location a little closer to the city.

Compared to what is customary at my home university, students in Australia living in so-called "student villages" on campus are usually first-year students and thereby a few years younger - at an age where even 2-3 years are sometimes crucial to one's behaviour. However, the atmosphere in general was very good, though interests among the students living in the same house were very different.

Great place to learn to become a teacher

Overall
I studied a Teaching postgraduate course in Deakin and it was a great choice. Most of the lecturers have been amazing with me. So long as I am dedicated to doing my course to the bes of my abilities, the lecturers will always try to help me. Enjoyed the practical activities they provide in the class.

The course is relatively comprehensive with a balance of both practical and philosophy in teaching.

Had a relative good experience with my practicum at both primary and secondary settings, and were grateful that the faculty was willing to assist me when needed to.

Classmates have been friendly and amazing and the athmosphere in the campus is often lively. Library was big and had substantial resources to complete assignments. It is very crowded but only on peak times (10am to 2pm). On other times, it is a great place to study and relax.

I was able to find work quickly in Melbourne that has allowed me to also find work quickly in Malaysia as soon as went there in 2019.

Pros
For a teaching course, it was a good balance of practical and teaching philosophy.
Cons
If you are unlucky, you might get a part time lecturer that may do activities that do not reflect what students want to do in certain subjects

If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Being in an apartment/house makes you feel more intergrated in the town. You actually feel like you live there and not just on exchange.

The house was for exchange students and it was great fun to live with people from different places. The house was great compared to the accomodation you get in London. We were well looked after.
