The host university I attend is a Grande Ecole, and the courses I study are post-graduate courses therfore the french students in the college are some of the best in the country and have very good english, so interacting is often in english which means international stuidents can sometimes get lazy. However I found that when I did speak I felt I was improving.

I did some consultancy work in my host university doing research (mainly phone/internet) for outside companies which paid quite well but the money did not follow as swiftly as is first indicated.

I wish I had known...
I did not feel fully ionformed about the courses that were on offer before I went and I dont think I made the right choices in my first term. Also, administrative avenues were not adequately explained for things like opening a bank account etc.

Final comments
Things may not go smoothly at first but they will work out and you will find that you will settle in quite quickly. Be open to doing new things and meeting new people and in the case of the frech people try not to lose your patience as their way of doing things can often be inefficient and can get quite maddening. Also interact with the french students who are usually happy to help out.

Academic
Course recommendations
All strategy and marketing courses were excellent. However the French system works alot on group work, case studies and presentations. There is very little individual work which is both good and bad.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Paris
Why?
I currently live in the suburbs of Paris and would have prefered to have lived in the city to have easier access to all that the city has to offer. Also the area I live in, Cergy Pontoise, is not particulrly safe!

Personal comments
The accomodation was a student residence , filled mainly with international students both on exchange and graduates. It was an excellent way of meeting people, interacting and speaking the language. Also it was close to the college and facilities were very good.
