My favorite spots was in the center. What was really close to the place where I lived. Also I went very often to the Concordia. It was bar for international students. Whe had there happy hour every Wendnesday. It was good to with the other internationals there to have fun.
The dutch culture can be very surprising : going from very strict, formal, structured and organised, to aspects which are very informal. Making some judgment mistakes (being too formal or too informal) brought me in ackward situations.

Spend some time on shopping around for decent housing, all the rest at this well organised and highly acclaimed university was excellent.

No university can beat the Leuven university (Belgium), but an Erasmus exchange to the ... Erasmus university was very enriching.

I will recommend to apply for accomodation in one of the various residences that are available, specially the International House. In those residences the international atmosphere is incredible!

In the Erasmus University all courses are done in English and the vast majority of the population in the Netherlands speak perfect English. I had the opportunity to improve my English skills and learn a few words in Dutch. However you only need English to survive!
