I had a really good experience with frech, mainly in the fencing club where I was taught to speak fench by the club menbers, and after seven months I undestood what were saying and I was able to talk.
In the school, we spoke english as a part of the course.

By the way, for the phone... if you go in france and are you planning to use "Orange" like selfphone operetor, change immidiatelly your mind... it is very expensive, much better SFR.
