Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
ICADE does not offer accomodation apart from living with elderlies or families, and I would prefer living on my own. However, finding a nice and affordable room for rent in Madrid is not the easiest task in the world. It takes pacience and seeing a lot of flats before finding something nice.

Personal comments
ICADE is situated in Argüelles, an area with lots of students and it is certainly possible to find a flat to share. Look for advertisements at ICADE and at the Ciudad Universitaria and in the daily newspaper "Segundamano". It is a great area with easy access to the centre, and certainly worth looking for a flat in this area.

Obviously, the size of Madrid makes it a place where you can do anything. On the cultural side - don´t miss the art museums and the opera. On the "fun" side - in the beginning it is advisable to head to Palacio de Gaviria on Thursdays (c/ Arenal) where international student parties are held but beware of the long queue to get in. For excellent sangría head to España Cañí just off Plaza Santa Ana. A few of my favorite cafés: Español on Plaza Santa Ana and Ruiz on calle de Ruiz, both with nice atmosphere and candle lights. Best restaurants in town (on a student budget, that is) are Finca de Susana and Gloria de Montera.

Personal comments
More "modern" teaching with more interaction in class in less of the traditional one way communication often used. ICADE has made some efforts in promoting critical thinking and problem solving skills in stead of memorizing the teachers notes.

Personal recommendation
ICADE is certainly a prestigious university in Spain and an asset for your CV. It does not have a campus as such, and therefore there is not much of a campus life style. The teaching style may seeem a bit old fashioned to students from more anglosaxon academic traditions, but it really depends on the teacher. Work load and academical standard is good, but not too demanding (again depending on the person). I managed to get good results in all subjects and still have time for a rich social live outside university.

Final comments
Enjoy your stay - and if you are on the E-4 programme do not miss out on the introduction weekend. It was great fun and an excellent way to get to know your class mates....
