Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Personal comments
Although you are told, that there a no rooms for exchange students in the dormitories, it is possible to get one - at least until you found a room in a flat. It is better to use this offer and search for a proper flat when you are already in the country

Use you cash-dispenser card, not your credit card. And don´t open a bank account in Hungary. Money from cash dispenser is cheaper even if you have to pay a certain percentage additionally on the amount you need

Academic
Course recommendations
Courses offered by the ISC (the institut for international students) are easier but the quality is quite worse than the quality of the courses offered by the "normal" faculties. IF you want to profit from the courses take those offered by the faculties. Hungary for intermediates are only offered to regular students, but if you ask them long enough they allow you to participate in that course as exchange student, too

Overall
I wish I had known...
Yes, that it is almost impossible to get information about how to get a visa and a working permission for an internship in HUngary. That you don´t have to pay for a visa because students donßt have to pay if they do a semester abroad with support of the ÖAD

Final comments
DON´T - UNDRE NO CIRCUMSTANCES - ATTEND A TRIP ORGANIZED BY THE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS UNION FROM THE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY (JUST OPPOSITE TO THE KÖZGAZ!) THEY ASK FOR TOO MUCH MONEY, THEY CHANGE THE DESTINATIONS OF TRIPS WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND THEY DON´T CARE ABOUT ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS WITH YOU IN CASES OF INJURIES AND DESEASES!

Language difficulties

Personal comments
many teacher s speak a quite good english, but there are also a lot of teacher that suffer from a proper english communication ability. The Hungarian students usually speak fluently English and German/French, as they are forced to speak two languages at least fluently in order to gain access to the university. IN my opinion they speak English significantly better than the students at my home university. Usually they also speak a thrid language quite good. So there are no problems of communication with the students. A lot of Hungarians living in Budapest speak German, so be careful if you speak German because a lot of people understand you!
