I liked my studies abroad very much. But I also remember, that it was sometimes very hard. I think, it is important to try to get used to the host University as soon as possible.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Although University accomodation seems to be expensive, it is cheaper than private accomodation. It is close to the University and you live together with other students.

I always had severe problems when I had to deal with the accomodation office. It seemed to me, that the accomodation office is neither capable nor interested in offering rooms to students.

I really liked it - especially the group I was working in was great (Liquid Crystals Reasearch Group at the Department of Chemistry). I could do my research there independent, which was a new and interesting experience for me (in germany we are normally supervised by a PhD student)

I think my time in London was the best time of my studies. The only really annoying thing was to find accomodation. The best to find a flatshare is to look in the Internet on the "Student contact list" on the page of the University of London Accomodation Office.

If you look for a job in a restaurant or pub, do not be surprise if they make you work for free for a few nights as "trial" and then "fire" you once they do not need you longer.
In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.

Life in London is quite expensive. Keep this in mind if you move there. And remember to register with a GP as soon as you arrive!

London is very cosmopolitan and does not really give an introduction into british or english life. I recommend London as a further step into becoming really international, after having experienced one foreign culture in depth (eg French in Lyon, German in Aachen or Freiburg)
In my opinion:
Most people loved it.

London by walking, look for the better deal everywhere: Eg Food on street markets, clothes in sale (up to 80% off), accomodation by charities.

The housing is fair enough in terms of space, cleanliness and facilities but it seems to be too expensive.
