I studied at the English Department and there were hardly any courses that suited for me.We have more choices here at home. But the teachers were really nice and helpful.

Overall
I wish I had known...
I didn't know that I might get my scolarship-money from Erasmus so late. I wished I got all of it in advance and not during the last weeks.

In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
The campus is really nice, the atmosphere is friendly even in the Administration building. You can always ask for help and I think this whole program taking care of the international students is very well- organized. They really take care of the individuals. I was very much satisfied with this.

Final comments
I highly recommend Joensuu University to everbody who are opened and want to get some nice experiences from Finland. Forget your prejudices concerning Finnish people. Lot of Finnish students are very friendly and opened. And you will make a lot of friends from all around the world, you can travel, have fun....I think it is worth studying abroad at another university even if you have some hard days -dark days:(
I think many of us,exchange students returned home with a lot of nice memories.I had hard times here after my returning....I definitely missed a lot of things, friends, saunas, 'makkara', lakes, the landscape, snow! I am sure I will go back to Finland and I keep in touch with some people I met there.

Languages
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your English?

My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
I was surprised how well most of the Finns speak English (altough sometimes they deny it). I went to Finland to learn more Finnish and it was not easy because I often ended up talking in English.I had some difficulties understanding local people who speak dialects.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Personal comments
I was very much satisfied with my accomodation which was a nice apartment at Noljakka.I had my own room (it is not that common in Hungary) and was nice sharing the flat with two other students. The surrounding area was beautiful,I cycled through the forest every morning to University. I highly reccomend Noljakka which is a peaceful place and many other students live very near to you so you can gather during long evenings and nights for dinner and for parties.
The only thing was the phone that I missed from the flat but you'll see in Finland everybody has mobils...
