De Werf is a great cafe. Plus, there are plenty great bars on the Olde Markt.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I would live in a house with other students. Most Flemish students live in small student rooms because they go home every weekend. Yet, for an international student, it would be better to live in a house with other students for the company.

Personal comments
I think the university should help students find housing and should offer housing on campus for international students (ie non-exchange students and non-Erasmus students). I was basically told to fend for myself, and it would have been better to have a built-in environment (ie a residence/dorm) where I could meet other students.

I did not come to Belgium to learn Dutch, and my program was in English. Sometimes, profs did not speak English very well, but mostly, they tried very hard. Almost everyone knows English in Flanders, and they can speak it very well.

Personal comments
I would suggest not to go to school here. The academic experience was appalling. I had no choice in courses, professors did not care about interacting with students on the whole, exams are only 1-3 questions and are very arbitrary, and overall, I learned little.

I wish I had known...
I wish I had known how the system worked here. I would not have studied here if I had known how bad the quality of academics are here. If you are an exchange student, this university is great because you will have little to no work, and consequently, more time to travel. If you want to actually do a degree here, don't come here.

Final comments
Don't come here if you want to do a degree. Come here if you are an exchange student or Erasmus student.
