I found that if you made the effort to speak the local language then people were very friendly and willing to help.

Russian is very hard to learn. I had been studying it for one year in Portugal when I went to Moscow. I can say that my Russian improved quite a bit, and it could have improve even more hadn't I been accompained with other Portuguese fellows, with whom I was talking all the time. I could only notice this few days before returning to Portugal.

I had no problems with the language as my mother is Russian. But however writing did require improvements!
