Travel: Start off with a tour around the main point in the first month of studies. When you start meeting people, start planning trips with them, and enjoy!
Food: look around the various supermarkets and compare prices. Don't restrick yourself to just to the one that's closest to home - this might be the most expensive one too.

Cost saving tip will be to spend the first days eating sandwitches and checking out your surroundings. Some supermarkets have cheaper items than others, and if you don't look after you finances, you might find yourself in trouble pretty soon. Make a list of cheap places to buy some food items, and housing items. Lidl, Pound stretcher and Farmfoods are the best around here.
