Get a driver license as soon as possible, it's easy and not too expensive, and it's saves troubles at bars when they ask you ID. Heck, some of them don't accept a passport, only a valid driver license. They claim a passport can be forged. Surely no driver license has ever been...

Course recommendations
When coming from Europe, and having studied there for a few years already, undergraduate are too easy, it is necessary to follow graduate classes, otherwise you do not learn much. Best is to talk to the professors and students who took the class before decideing, some undergraduate classes give a good insight in how Americans feel and live. But overall, go fo graduate courses!

Renting an appartment is a bit more expensive than living in a dorm, but the advantage is that you cook and thus buy your own food, which is much cheaper than eating and paying in the university cafeteria.
