Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (PDI)

In class, I didn't speak too much. I was quite shy and even if involvement in class is part of the education in US, professors are not going to force you to speak. But I spoke a lot outside, with my roommates or exchange students. It was difficult because french people are not as good as danish or Finnish people so sometimes I was a bit ashamed to don't understand. But after, you can understand more and more, even americans who speak very fast. When I spoke I made a lot of mistakes because I wanted to answer fast but overall everybody could understand me ... I hope so ! ^^

My English was already quite good. Although I learned more slang than I knew before. I had no problems communicating with people, although they always asked me where I was from, because of my accent.

It was a good way to improve the language proficiency. However, the local students were not too actively to communicate with you, but the professors did. The professors were really friendly and willing to talk with you.

I improved my English skills a lot and this is the best of my experience.Much better in written sometimes still in trouble if the conversation is too hard.Unbeleievable how difficult is to understand us guys mumbling.

Even though you do not notice it, your language improves a lot when you are abroad. You learn slang words and sentences that you would not learn at home.

I had no problems whatsoever in communication since my first language is English. Its just the culture that took a little getting used to initally.
