Privately arranged apartments are a lot cheaper than the ones arranged through the host university - but very hard to get.

It is very hard to get a contract with service institutions (e.g. banks, internet and telephone providers). If staying for a year, I would recommend to get a "personnummer" which facilitates everything.

Swedes love to speak English so there is hardly any opportunity to practice Swedish. On the other hand, there where never communication problems.
