Personal comments
Its pretty tough at times, especially if you are at a pharmacy and need medication-and have to explain what you need in Spanish, but thats all apart of the experience. You have to embarrass yourself a little if you want to get anywhere. Live and learn!

Final comments
Try new things, be cautious but not afraid. Try to avoid going to the same bars or clubs that all the other American students go to, make international friends! Branch out and be independent. Keep your options open and try to get to know your city before you take off on weekend trips. Get to know your new home!!

Housing
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Because I feel I would have felt more independent. My host family had rules and guidelines that we had to follow. We also didn't have much privacy living in the space they provided for us.

It is a hit or miss experience. You could be placed with a welcoming family or you could be placed with a very rigid and unwelcoming family. You don't know what you are going to get, but I suppose that is the best part, you have no idea, its all a new experience!

If you are going to attend SLU in Madrid, their are many local cafes and restaurants that surely current students will let you in on. Blended and Tienda Verde are within walking distance, excellent quick lunchs. Rastro (flee market) and Retiro (park) on Sundays are a must! You will know what I mean when you get there.
