I lived at Ruen Indra Court, which is a kind of a hotel. Good service and very nice people. You can however find cheaper places.

Academic
Course recommendations
Take courses which concerns on the local region when possible. This is their strength. I recommend Economics of Selected Asian Countries. Do not take any principle courses. It is too basic.

Personal comments
Take one level higher than you normally would. The local students have to adjust to the way of critical thinking at a university. This "sucks" the life out of the principles courses. The teacher have to drag answers out of local students and much time is spend on this rather than contents.
