Personal comments
Due to the existence of the Catalan language in Barcelona, sometimes it could be annoying because one couldn't understand it.However it actually was of benefit because hearing the catalan language allows one to be able to learn a new language quite similar to spanish and french.Overall my experience in learning spanish could not have been better.

Expenses
Main source of funding:
Family
Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant
Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience
Personal spending habits
I spent more because in Ireland I live at home with my parents and in Barcelona I obvioulsy had to fend for myself.Overall everything is cheaper than in Ireland but because an Erasmus year is enjoyable you go out more and socialize more, travel more etc.

Academic
Course recommendations
There are a lot of courses that would have appealed to me but are taught through Catalan, and therefore cannot be taken, which can be quite aggravating.

More consideration for students interested in taking courses that are only taught through Catalan. If there is the demand surely we should be given the choice to take the subject in Spanish.

Final comments
Make the most of a year abroad,it is one hell of an experience, more people should get the chance to discover another culture. It really is down to what you make of the year yourself.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Because it gives you more freedom and allows you to meet more people and speak the foreign language.
