I wish I had known...
if i had known before hand that we weren't to have any heating in our apartement, i would have brought with me a few extra blankets and woolsocks. even though the image of spain is sunny and hot, in november and december you might not want to go to the beach anymore. at least to swim in the sea, that is.

in general, spain is regarded as less expencive country than, say, scandinavian countries, but barcelona isn't really that cheap. be prepared of for instance not getting any student discounts on your train/busfares.

folks! everytime you withdraw money from the atm, your local bank will take about 2-3 euros of service fees. i didnt know this. nice surprise.
also, if you want to take a language course before venturing to the real classes, be prepared to pay aprox. 200e.
a tip: if you are a cinema enthusiast, and have to get your fix of films each week, i suggest that you go to the cinema on monday: it's generally known as the spectator day, when movie ticket will cost you only 4e.

i really think it's worthwhile to have an apartement in the city. the campus is 40min. away from barcelona, and in my opinion you'll miss out a lot of barcelona nightlife by staying at the campus. go poblenou! :)
