that the choice of courses in english is limited and therefore if you have a strict syllabus it may be hard to find acceptable courses

the social life for internatonal students at this university is great. there are loads of foreign students to meet on the courses (especially those in english) and the erasmus assocation arranges occasional nights out and trips away.

take advantage of madrid's central position to get plenty of travellng in - buses are cheap and there are plenty of car rental companies at the airport. make the most of the all-night madrid nightlife because it is unrivalled! aim to settle in quickly to the laid back spanish attitude to life, and don't expect a sense of urgency about anything!
if your spanish is not good enough to take spanish courses then be prepared settle for some course you might not want to take since the choice of subjects in english is limited and can change.

the adminstration things in the first couple of weeks (choosing courses, handing in forms, getting id) was the hardest since i hadn't studied spanish for over a year. get some help from the erasmus assocation or the international office. i learnt most spanish at home talking with my spanish flatmates, but there are also courses run by the university.

the new hall of residence in leganes wasnt complete when i moved in. it is expensive and too far away from the getafe (socal sciences and law) campus. the travel connections from the new hall are bad to getafe and to madrid (it's in a new estate in leganes and is pretty far from everything in the town too). i moved out after 3 months and was much happier in a privately rented flat.

in madrid there are more bars and clubs than you could ever hope to visit in a lifetme!! huertas (around pl. santa ana) is an any-night-of-the-week party area, but can also be amongst the most expensive/crowded on weekends because it is the main tourist hang out. try tribunal or chueca for alternative bars and clubs.
