Taken courses in the local language is definetly a good way to learn the language. BUT, practice and grammar is very important which has to be more focused. Implying, that one should force itself to currently speak the local language even though many international students are around.

The accomodation prices in the center of Madrid were higher. Furthermore, international phonce calls contribute a lot to more spendings. Furthermore, exploring a foreign country almost always implies more traveling, leading to more expenses in this category.

It can be quite cheap for germans coming to Madrid in terms of the flight tickets. If you are lucky, you can get a one-way plane ticket for 19,90€ (www.hlx.com, www.germanwings.com).
