The Filmoteca, the best place to go if you like cinema and like see movies in its original version (plus, it's cheap). The Malasaña barrio and also Tribunal are probably the best spots if you like bars (and a wide variety too). There is a lot to do in Madrid!

Met people from other countries
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies & career
Final comments
Be open to new experiences and try not to compare life abroad with life at home. Take in the best parts of Spain (nightlife, kind people) and try to accept the rest.

The general living sitation in Spain is far cheaper than it is in the United States. The food, telephone, and the accomodations were a lot cheaper than they are in the states. I greatly enjoyed this factor a lot!

One cost saving tip that I would highly recommend would be to buy an abono (a Monthly Metro pass), which includes your fair for both the bus and underground metro. This saves you a great deal of money if you are going to stay for a month or longer.

Academic
Course recommendations
Choose the courses at the afternoon, becaus those teachers work for the days as well as many students (so they are a bit older, about 22-24) and when the summer comes yo'll need the "siesta" because its so dam' hot!

Languages
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: Basic phrases
My level after: At ease in most situations
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
It wasn't easy but teachers and local students were happy to help and were patient when I was struggling!
Don't make the mistake of spening too much time speaking your native language though - I saw a few people go home having not learned much Spanish!
