I had to pay for Spanish classes through the Cervantes institute, no other local language classes were available.

No consideration was made for foreign students in classes, staff were actually rude on some ocassions and seemed annoyed when Erasmus students wanted to join classes. It was more of a high school environment than university, with classes tutorial style more than lecture style. It is a private university so plenty of spoiled rich kids only there because of parents.

I spent more on travel because I was purposefully taking the opportunity to visit other Eramus friends and see the country. Phone costs were more due to keeping in touch with people abroad. I did go out quite a lot but the cost of going out was more expensive than at home. Accomdation was expensive due to living in town but I'd much rather pay to live in Madrid that out at the university.

Travel as much as possible, the academic expectations weren't high so really do see as much of the city and country as possible. Don't expect things to be like at home!

Pourquoi?
Because living with other students in the city was a far better option than living near the university. Living centrally allowed for greater independence.

The is accomodation provided by the univeristy on campus but it was very very expensive. I also did not chose private accomodation in Villaviciosa where the university is due to it being about 40 mins by bus from Madrid. The town felt very isolated so I much preferred living in Madrid and travelling out to the university. There was no student community sense in the village.

I found there to be no/very little student community, e.g. no student nights or clubs really that allowed foreign and national students to mix. No social opportunities in the university town, had to be in Madrid.
