Personal comments
I am half Spanish, but needed practice in a Spanish environment over some time to become as good as I feel I should be. Exchange students always spoke Spanish, which gave a great learning environment even when not talking to locals.

Picking courses can be very time-consuming. Get some help from local students or the international office. Make sure to get enough information about the contents of the courses.

Housing
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: A room exchange
Why?
Although there were two other students living with the same family, it would have been more social to live solely with students rather than with an old lady.

There are many very nice clubs, cafes, theatres, tapas bars and so on in Madrid. Walk around and you will always find something new and exciting. Do not miss out on superclubs Pacha and Joy though. Buy the weekly Guía del Ocio for an update on what is happening in the city. Make sure to visit the many good museums.
