Personal spending habits
Housing and living costs are VERY low in Cadiz. You can get a good apartment in the old town for around 180 Euros a month and bills only come to around 30 Euros every 3 months. However, mobile phone costs are abominable and the nightlife tends to be extremely expensive. Particularly considering the price of beer at the local supermarkets!

Gaditanos tend to throw a lot of furniture onto the street. don't be fooled, most of it is still in good nick. Be careful of areas with lots of dogs though..

Personal comments
The university needs to invest more money into its language schools. Computing facilities are a joke. Also, the university would do wel lto reduce the size of its classes for many subjects.

I wish I had known...
Don't expect any help from the International Office. The best place to find accomodation is in "Cambalache", the local newspaper. You can also find good student flats posted on the noticeboards around the university. These will mostly be for sharing with other ERASMUS students however.

Personal recommendation
Don't be afraid to take 5th year classes. Try and meet as many gaditanos as you can. Don't get annoyed at the whole "guiri" thing.

TRy and book into a hostal before you arrive. Quo Cadiz is particularly cheap, but has severe restrictions on your liberty(lock out at 12). For a more bohemian(and slightly more chaotic)experience. Book into the Casa Caracol(4 Suarez de Salazar, near Calle Gloria, next to La Plaza de San Juan de Dios). Also, take time out to visit Portugal, Marocco, Canos de Meca, Granada, Sevilla and Tarifa whilst your there. Oh, and bring a good costume for canaval.

Personal comments
The gaditano accent is possibly the most difficult to understand in Spain. Gaditanos tend to use a lot of slang, and professors at the university try their best to sound completely comprehensible. Sometimes, howevr, I struggles to keep up.

The best bars in Cadiz for exchange students have to be Medusa, Osaka, Woodstock(New Town), El ollo and el Capos on Plza Mina. Best Restaurant has got to be La Gorda Bella off la calle neuva
