La Sal and Salsaya have to be visited. Koo is also a great after hours dance place. Tattoo, a cafe right next to San Lorenzo church, has the best cafe caramelo ever.

Practice the language you are supposed to be learning as much as you can. Don't revert to English because it's easier for you to communicate. Try your best to communicate in Spanish even with the Americans. Carry a little notebook with you everywhere so that you can write down new words and/or phrases that you learn.

When choosing a city, think thoroughly what you want to gain from the experience. My reason for going to Cordoba, a relatively little known city, was to get away from American students, immerse myself in the Spanish culture, and learn the Spanish language. Cordoba could not have been a better choice and my year living there has been the best year of my life!

Again, our program was catered towards the American students and although the classes were in Spanish and were quite demanding, I'm sure the classes with the local students were much more difficult.

If you want to learn Spanish and study in Spain, Cordoba is the best place to do it because foreign students are definitley not as common as they are in Sevilla or in Madrid for example. In order to get around the city, one has to be able to speak Spanish, and if you don't know the language you will quickly learn. Living in Cordoba means that you will totally immerse yourself in the Spanish language and culture.

The best way to purchase things in Spain is to use a credit card, you get much better exchange rates. Never exchange dollars at the airport, the exchange rate is awful.
