Recommandation personnelle
Its a great place to study and not very big. Therefore there is not a huge student community and so there are less foreign students which will force you to speak more of the language. Avoid socialising with foreign people and integrate with the locals as that is the only true way to learn the language and experience the culture

Recommandations de cours
The timetables were rather difficult to organise and I was unable to pick many of my preffered subjects because they clashed with other obligatory classes. However, European Studies was the most interesting and the teacher was very good!

Commentaire personnel
The subjects which we were able to study within the timetable were not often relevant to what was being studied in our course in our Home University. The class exams were also marked negatively, if you got 10 answers wrong and 10 right you would get 0 which does not help you learn where you have gone wrong in the exam.

Commentaire personnel
Learning a language in the host country is the best way to learn. I also took a Spanish language course during my time there at a private college which helped me more with the grammatical aspects. In general, I learned most of my spanish from socialising with other Spanish students and interacting with them and not as much in class.

I spent more on food because we often ate out a lot in order to try new dishes. I called home more often and used the Internet for studying so our phone bill was high. Housing and nightlife are much cheaper in Spain than in the UK because of the exchange rate. I travelled as much as I would at home, maybe a bit more but again it was cheaper to live and travel in Spain than in the UK. Overall I spent less because I did not have a part time job like I did at home, therefore I did not have as much money. I did work occasionally doing PR but I still did not have as much as I did at home unfortunately!

I offered help from other Spanish students at the University but I chose to find my own accomodation, living with other Spanish people.

The Mezquita in the Jewish quarter was spectacular as were many of the surrounding tapas restaurants. The end of May is when the Feria takes place and the whole city prepares for at least a month to build tents that have restaurants and bars for the week of the feria. It fantastic, I helped decorate my friends caseta when I was there and it was great fun! You must try Pilecream!
