As I said before, you gotta make an effort to speak spanish, otherwise, there are so many foreign students that it is really easy to speak english all the time. Other than that, Salamanca locals speak good spanish that is easy to understand.

Live in an apartment and go grocery shopping, it lower the cost of living a lot. The bus is cheap, take advantages of the school trips to the cities around.
