Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why?
I lived with a family in Seville and loved it. Living with a family makes you feel more integrated into Spanish society.

Personal comments
The only main drawbacks were that I lived 20 minutes away from downtown, I lived right next to the cemetary, the funeral home, and the retirement home, and I lived with another American (I would've preferred to live with a Spanish girl instead).

Overall
I wish I had known...
That I wouldn't have much of a social life here.

In my opinion:
Stay home.
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
It's a good university. I chose Valladolid because I knew I would have the opportunity to teach English here at an academy. If I had chosen another university for the social atmosphere, I most likely wouldn't have had the opportunity to teach. My apartment was fully paid for because I taught and I also received a small stipend of 300 euros/month.

During my experience abroad, I ...
(1) Never – (4) A lot
Became familiar with another culture
Met people from other countries
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies & career
Final comments
I would choose another town to live in because the people in Valladolid are not open to people who are not from there. It's extraordinarily difficult to make friends here-my main friends here are from the U.S. as well.

Academic
Course recommendations
If you can avoid taking Gramatica I with Carmen Hoyos Hoyos, do so. My favorite course here was Literatura Hispanoamericana with Fuentes Bastardo. Great professor, learned a lot from him.
