I think that my expreience is different from most. Professors from my University traveled with us and taught our courses and we had class together (everyone from my university). I was disappointed in that I wanted to interact more with the natives both students and professors. It really was not an UDLA program but my university program at UDLA. That was disappointing to me but I feel that I mad ethe best of my experience. I went out in search of Mexican friends and I found them. So my assessment is really not of UDLA. I do not know what UDLA is really like as a educational institution. I just know the campus.

The Mexican Civilisation course is very interesting, covering everything from the Aztec beginnings to the contradictions of contemporary Mexican society. It's not too taxing, but you learn a lot and I'd even go so far as to say it was fun! The language classes were largely grammar-based and could be a bit dry.

Registering for courses was extremely confusing. Trying to work out what we were entitled to do as international students was a nightmare, and the sheafs of paper listing the courses were littered with indecipherable codes. International students should be given more guidance with this process!

UDLA offers a wide range of subjects. Of course most are in Spanish but teachers are very helpful to non Spanish speakers. I took 2 Spanish classes, Mexican Revolution (great) and Mexican Literature all in English. They were all worthwhile subjects.

As I was taking subjects geared towards International students they were not extremely rigorous academically. But that was fine with me.

If your spanish is decent enough for real university classes, you will have lots of options. Otherwise, there are a few english classes and a bunch of dreadful language classes.

Class quality will depend on your professor, but doesn't it always? All in all, it was a relaxed semester. Lots of the reading was in English even though I was taking universtity level courses.

small classes (never more than 25 students) = familiar study atmosphere. Examinations are diveded into 4 periods, i.e. a presentation/ test/ written paper every 4 weeks.
