Hardly anyone speaks Basque in town, but at the uni you hear it more. Some people know some English, but don't count on it!

Enjoy the area, its nature and culture, and make the effort to get to know some locals. It's definately worth it!

With Ryanair you can fly cheap to Bilbao and take the bus (there's one every half an hour) from over there to Vitoria. On your way back send some stuff by post to avoid paying for extra kilos.

I travelled and went out more than in Finland. In general Spain is cheaper than Finland even though the Basque Country is one of the most expensive areas in the country.

There's a very friendly cafe-pintxo place on Calle Dato called Dato 5 and a popular and easy-going bar in the old town close to the Plaza called El 7, that I recommend. Loft and Circulo were the night clubs I mainly went to.
