I thought the accommodation with a family was a great idea and very organized, they matched our pesonalities with that of the family to ensure that we got along well and got the most out of our living experience.

Overall

Robert V

Overall
The University of Padova is one of the best of the country, I have also studied in Ferrara but here all the experience feels more "international" due to the strong presence of International students. I have also done an Erasmus, in Barcelona.

I had only two semesters of instruction before I left for Italy, but by the end I was completely at ease in any situation. Because all of my classes were in Italian, in addition to further instruction in grammar, my Italian flourished. I comminicated constantly with my host family and Italian friends.

When i first arrived in Italy I was able to make people understand me even if the correct vocabulary wasn't being used but i did have some difficulty with the speed at which people spoke. After spending 10 months there i speak very well and i can understand mostly everything when people speak to me.

Course recommendations
Make sure the professors at your home university are happy with your choice of courses at your host university. I had a problem with this. I did the wrong courses, found out afterwards, and nearly got kicked out of my home university a year later because I hadn't studied some necessary topics!

Personal comments
Introduce yourself to your host professors at an early stage so it is easier to ask them questions as time goes on. Also try to introduce yourself to some of the students on your courses so you can ask them abouts things as well; I did find this more difficult.
