I wish I had known...
If you're from a British university - you won't be spoon-fed in Germany. You'll have to be active working out what courses are on offer and what your requirments are.

I had a chance to have contact to people who felt very familiar with the city and athmosphere. I could learn more about the place I was by talking to them.

Actually I have got every needed information before leaving through my home and host university and trough many friends who did exchange in Germany, Cologne before... I was lucky one! :o)

Study those with other international students. Make sure lecturer knows from day 1 that you are foreign and ask to make some exceptions in exam - can maybe do oral instead of written.

Because in food may things such as for example fruits and vegetables are imported categories so of course I had to pay more money but for other things such sa cinema or musuem or telephone as I was a student in Germany there many faciliatations as student.
