Bologna offers an intensive language course in September and once again in January. These courses are free and are subsequently an excellent way of meeting other students.

Italian was easy to learn for me, being spanish, and it was really nice and funny how we learnt little by little, by talking with other people and going to lessons.

I learned the language pretty fast becuase of many contacts and other foreign students willing to learn italian instead of communicating in english like many do.

you have to get in contact with the local students than it`s easy to learn and handle the new language.the local students are very nice to the interantional students.

Knowing some italian is essential. However, italian is not essential at university. Since I knew how to speak italian befor going there, I had no problems.

I had studied italian for 4 years before I went to Bologna, so I had no problems to express myself and to understand people in everyday's life.
