I wish I had known...
One of the greatest clichés about Germany is that the weather is absolutely awful... Well, soon after you settle in Bielefeld, you discover that the weather is actually... abolsutely awful.

Final comments
Bielefeld is near some great German cities: living there you will have the occasion to see Cologne, Dusseldorf, Bonn, Hannover, Bremen, Hamburg and even Maastricht or Amsterdam. Bielefeld is indeed a “small” city with lots of students... but one is not obliged to stay here for the whole year!

The University offers a language course in September: it was pretty useful, not only as a language course, but also because we could get used to live in a German-speaking area a month before the semester actually began.

The Studentenwerk (which provides services for the students) has a lot of halls of residence near the University and in Bielefeld, with single rooms or WGs. All the rooms are clean and quite nice.
